In this safari, you will trek the low land gorillas that are different from mountain gorillas in different features. You will enjoy much wildlife in this safari such as eastern chimpanzees, bush buffaloes, elephants, different monkeys among others. You will have a chance to tour the city of Kigali in Rwanda and also a chance to visit some communities in D.R. Congo where you will encounter local Congolese culture.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Kahuzi-Biega NP in D.R. Congo from Kigali
Pick up from the hotel or Kigali international airport by your assigned driver guide and then have a short Kigali tour where you will visit the local markets, genocide memorial centre and drive south words and cross the border of Cyangugu and stop at Bukavu town. If time allows, you will proceed to the park in Kahuzi-Biega which gets its name from two extinct mountains i.e. Kahuzi and Biega. This park is reached in diverse land features and wildlife species. It was also declared as the UNESCO world heritage site in 1980 due to the ecological importance of regulating the climatic conditions. Various activities are carried out in this park and the main one being gorilla trekking.
Day 2: Low land gorilla trekking and Kibati waterfalls
A cup of coffee will be key to start the day and followed with a transfer to Kahuzi-Biega N/P headquarters for short instructions before your gorilla trekking experience. As you seek to meet these gorillas with the ranger guide, it’s more captive and memorable, and an hour will be allocated to you after finding them. But remember, trekking can take over 2-8 hours due to the movements of these large apes.
After trekking, you will have a nature walk later after lunch where you will visit Kibati waterfalls and also neighbouring communities. Learn more about the people of D.R. Congo as you get entertained by their traditional music and dances called Lingala.
Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali city
After a leisure breakfast, transfer back to Kigali in Rwanda after crossing the Cyangugu border and you will be dropped at the airport in Kigali or at the hotel which will be the end of 3 days lowland gorilla tour.
