On this luxury safari, you will explore the best of Rwanda’s wildlife and culture as you thrive through the chosen national parks like Akagera, Volcanoes and Nyungwe and visiting the lakes of Kivu with beautiful beaches.
You will be able to spend your nights in luxurious hotels, participate in luxurious activities as you use a luxurious tourist vehicle. You will trek the remaining mountain gorillas, chimpanzees who are our blood cousins, spotting the hippos, spotted hyenas, elephants, primates like olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys among others.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, city tour and transfer to the hotel
Arrival at Kigali international airport and be welcomed by the tour driver guide who will make a transfer to the booked hotel after a quick briefing. In case you arrive early, you will have a city excursion where you will visit places like the Rwanda genocide memorial centre, the local craft market, the art galleries among others.
Day 2: Transfer to Akagera national park and afternoon game drive
Make a transfer to Akagera national park after your breakfast with a thrilling journey with memorable moments.
This park covers an area of 2500sq. km, homing many attractions for example over 520 bird species papyrus gonolek, squacco heron, grey crowned crane among others and animals like the elephant, lions, hippos, crocodiles, olive baboons among others. This park got its name from River Akagera that originates from Tanzania.
You will have lunch en-route and then proceed to the park for an afternoon game drive to be able to view the beauty of this park.
Day 3: Morning game drive and boat cruise on Lake Ihema
An exciting moment starts as you head to the park offices to pick the park ranger who will take you through a game drive in an open-topped roof vehicle. You will go through the park savannah corners and among others, you will spot lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, zebras among others.
You will later on return to the lodge for your lunch and then head for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema. While here you will spot the largest herd of hippos in East Africa and also many crocodiles. Be served with dinner after a hot shower and then prepare for next day activity.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe national park
Transfer far to the home of primates in Rwanda the area called Nyungwe national park with over 13primates including our fellow cousins – chimpanzees. The park also is famous for the canopy walk that can only be found in this park. It covers an area of 1015 square kilometres and this makes it a home for several wildlife species such as the animals, birdlife and also tree species.
It also has many waterfalls such as Kamiranzovu waterfalls. All these are great to discover and explore. Heck in the safari lodge on your arrival and then be served with your dinner.
Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and any optional activity
Take a spiced breakfast and then head to the park offices for briefing, here you will go through the dos and don’ts to follow while trekking our cousins-chimpanzees. Trekking can take more than 2 hours but an hour will be allocated to you in their presence as you watch them playing, feeding, grooming their babies among others.
You will also spot other attractions like olive baboons, Marsh Mongoose, silver monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, Golden Cat and, Giant Forest Hog among others. In the afternoon, you will head for any option activity and this will be discussed with your driver-guide.
Day 6: Canopy walk and waterfall hike
Enjoy a canopy walk after a leisure breakfast which is the only one in East Africa and this can last over 3hours of adventure as you spot primates crossing from one side to another and also jumping from one tree to another this is great moments good for photography. Among other primates you can spot include; black and white colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, brown-faced monkeys, Vervet monkey among others. Hike the Kamiranzovu waterfall in the afternoon which is also a great encounter and this can take up to 3-4 hours. In the evening, return to the lodge for your dinner which will be served on time.
Day 7: Lake Kivu exploration
Be served with a spied cup of tea and then transfer to Kibuye on the eastern shower of Lake Kivu. While here, you will participate in different activities like the boat ride and visit the islands, take a visit to Kivu town or even visit the Ndaba falls. Late evening, you will again return to the lodge for your dinner.
Day 8: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Transfer to the home of the remaining mountain gorillas-volcanoes national park located in the Virunga ranges. This is one of the national parks in Africa you can trek these great apes with their beauty.
It’s home of over 300 bird species like chested bee-eater, blue-spotted wood dove, and cinnamon- and also other animals that can be viewed are spotted hyenas, olive baboons among others. Arrive and check-in a luxurious lodge which is well furnished and be ready for your delicious dinner.
Day 9: Gorilla trekking and community visit at Ibyiwachu cultural village
Trek the remaining endangered mountain gorillas after breakfast and briefing about the dos and don’ts like not using flashlights, not making noise among others. Trekking takes over 3 hours and it requires someone who is physically fit due to hiking some parts of the park.
You can also spot other attractions like the olive baboons, elephants, L’Hoest’s monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys among others.
After the trek head to the lodge and then be served with lunch which will be followed with a community visit to Ibyiwachu cultural village where you will learn more about the Kinyarwanda culture among others are the traditional dances, meals, folk tales and also meeting the local brewers as you take a community walk. Head back to the lodge and then be served with dinner
Day 10: Transfer back to Kigali city and departure
This will be the last day of your 10 days luxury safari in Rwanda and it will start with a leisure breakfast and then check out from the lodge and transfer to Kigali city. While in the city, you can have a short city excursion and this will also depend on your scheduled flight.
A drop off at Kigali international airport will follow which will be the end of the 10 days luxury safari in Rwanda.
