Day 1: Pick up and Depart to Nyungwe national park – plantation visit
On this first day of your three days Nyungwe primate safari, time management will be key as our guide will meet you at the airport or lodge at the very agreed time, going ahead to brief you about the entire package; explaining everything in the itinerary right from the activities to be done, to the history of the country, plus responding to some of the questions you might be having.
Thereafter, you will share a glass of Juice as the conversation goes on and then hit the road for a 4-5hour drive to Nyungwe national park, traversing the country’s undulating hills, and natives carrying on with their work.
There will be an en-route stopover for lunch before proceeding to the park where you will arrive in the evening, and choose from relaxing in your lodge or have a plantation tour as dinner and a nap follow.
Day 2: Morning Chimp tracking and Canopy walk
You will depart your lodge very early in the morning after breakfast to join other colleagues in the park’s headquarters for registration and briefing with the park rangers who will explain to you the acceptable behaviors while with the apes, respond to your questions and assign you some porters to assist in carrying your cameras and also offer support if you get weak.
Chimpanzees are believed to be humans’ closest relatives with over 98% human DNA and similar characteristics.
There are over 13 unique primate species recorded in this park including the chimpanzees that you will encounter in the course of your search through the help of the park ranger, and some other primates may include; Colobus monkeys, Baboons, vervet monkeys, and many more, plus rare bird and tree species.
After hustling with the hills and slopes, one hour will be your reward to watch, take photos, and listen to the vocalization of the chimpanzees in the wild.
Afterwards, you will have lunch and some relaxation before heading for an afternoon canopy walk which offers you a chance of watching the different primates, and the fascinating landscape while on top of the suspended walkway. You will sum up your day with dinner and overnight at the lodge.
